Our Student of the Month for September is Madyson Buchanan! If there was a student that I would say is my most improved since she started, I would say it is Maddy B. Not because she couldn’t ride, she actually could. She just started her Sophomore year of High School and her family came to me about 4 years ago with their quarter horse. They had a rough start into the horse business, but they have stuck with it! The first time Maddy did a lesson with me she held the horn as she loped. She had a great seat and knew how to ride, reaching for the horn just seemed to be a nervous habit. Since then Maddy has become a much more confident rider and has bravely tried every discipline I’ve thrown at her!
Maddy and her sister, Kiki, acquired their first POA over a year ago now. Moe has helped Maddy become confident in so many new challenges. Together they have jumped 2’6”, mastered flying lead changes for western riding, and have really started accelerating in barrel racing! Maddy has also become such a competent rider that she has been competing on a western IEA team, where she has to catch ride horses in horsemanship and reining! She has also been my go-to rider at the barn the last year for helping me get youth riders on some of my younger horses. Maddy has always had a very controlled seat, and beautiful equitation. Combine that with her gaining confidence and this girl is going to be tough to beat! She has one bright future ahead!
